Construction at 1428 Brickell has climbed past level 16, and the sculptural curves in the design are taking shape.
YTech is developing the tower, which is billed as the world's first luxury high-rise partially powered by the sun. The solar claim remains the project's calling card. This week's concrete update is its construction height: work is now above level 16.
The change is increasingly visible from the neighborhood. Curves that existed mainly in renderings are beginning to define the structure as crews add levels. That gives Brickell residents a simple marker for the next update: how much farther the building has risen and how its profile continues to emerge.
Neighbors get another seat at the table for 619 Brickell
A Miami appellate court has reopened part of the review for 619 Brickell, the proposed condominium project behind First Miami Presbyterian Church.
The court found that the IconBrickell Condominium No. Two Association was improperly denied the chance to participate. A three-judge panel ruled unanimously that the association qualified because its property is within 500 feet and its interests differ from those of the general public.
The ruling throws out the earlier Historic and Environmental Preservation Board and City Commission resolutions and sends the matter back to Miami for further proceedings. It does not stop the proposed 75-story, 296-unit project or decide whether it should be built.
The church property at 609 Brickell Ave. has carried a city historic designation since 2003. IconBrickell's Tower 2 sits about 160 feet away and has 560 units and roughly 1,300 residents.
Miami Spice gives Brickell diners a long price ladder
Miami Spice runs through September 30, with Brickell restaurants offering several clear price points. The program starts at $40 for brunch or lunch, while dinners cost $50 or $65. Reserve experiences begin at $95.
At EAST Miami, Quinto has a $40 weekday lunch, Sugar has a $65 dinner Sunday through Thursday, and Tea Room has a $65 dinner Wednesday through Sunday. Nusr-Et lists a $40 daily lunch, $65 dinner, and $110 Reserve option.
Other schedules include Delilah's $65 dinner Tuesday through Saturday, Rosa Sky's $50 dinner Wednesday through Sunday, and Hutong's $40 weekday lunch plus $65 daily dinner. Casa Zeru spans all three levels: $40 weekday lunch, $65 dinner Monday through Saturday, and $95 Reserve Thursday through Saturday.
A tower-crane jib fell into a Brickell rooftop pool
Nobody was hurt after a tower-crane jib fell into a Brickell apartment building's rooftop pool on Friday, August 7.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said the crane was being assembled at a construction site next to the building when something went wrong. The apartment property is along Southwest First Avenue near Interstate 95.
A Fire Rescue photo showed the jib partly submerged, and an aerial view showed the crane section twisted in the pool. The cause was still unclear when the incident was reported the next morning. The most important outcome is also the simplest: despite a heavy piece of equipment landing on an occupied property's amenity deck, officials reported no injuries.
